Under Royal Decree 1055/2022, in force since 1 January 2025, household packaging has to indicate which container or fraction it belongs in. Material marking with the 97/129/EC codes is voluntary in Spain unless another rule requires it. As an EU market this also sits under the EU packaging regulation, whose first requirements began applying in August 2026 and which will progressively replace the national marking schemes.
